You+Me is a Hidden Gem Of Folk Music
Are you a fan of the folk music genre? If so, I have a jackpot for you today. A music collaboration that is so good I can hardly believe they managed to stay under the radar. I am talking about You+Me. Have you heard about them? I would not be surprised if you haven’t.
You+Me is a music duo consisting of Alecia Moore, better known as Pink and Dallas Green, better known as City and Colour. Now these names you most likely do recognize. Both Pink and City and Colour are very popular. And yet somehow someway when they came together to create a truly marvelous duet, it did not blow up music scene. Even though their music is absolutely magical.
I simply could not let you miss on this precious folk music gem!
Who are You+Me? Short Bio
You+Me is a folk music duo made up of Dallas Green(City and Colour) and Alecia Moore(P!nk). They met through mutual friends and quickly bonded over their music interests. They had ideas of working together, but with both of them being quite famous and popular, they did not have time to actually do it. That was up until 2014, when they got into studio and in about a week created their debut album Rose Ave. It was released the same year. They chose the name You+Me because it reflected their desire to make music together as friends.
Rose Ave. remains the duo’s only album so far. It was a big success, hitting number one in Canada and number four in the U.S. There’s been talk of a second album but it hasn’t been confirmed yet.

You+Me Musical Style
You+Me presents a beautiful blend of folk and soft acoustic styles. It is done so amazingly and carefully. It’s like a perfect combination of music and vocals that results in ultimate harmony. A huge showcase of talents by both Dallas Green and Alecia Moore.
Their music is extremely mellow, peaceful, heartfelt and emotional. The focus is on simple arrangements. There’s nothing unnecessary that would distract a listener from their gorgeous harmonized vocals. Because the duo’s songs feature only acoustic guitars and minimal instrumentation, you are left alone with splendid lyrics and warm voices. A perfect company if i say so myself.
For music of this extraordinary brilliance it’s amazing how it did not get much bigger. Yes, they were successful with the debut album, but I know so many people who love one of these artists yet still have no idea that they did this duo collaboration.
What Makes You+Me So Special?
You+Me created music of exceptional quality. And I mean not only the production side of it, which is obviously great. The main reason why this duo is so special is because they are very open and genuine with their music. It’s like Dallas and Alicia completely set aside all their previous work and their already established artist image and let their creative energies fly free. It’s a rare case when artists are not afraid to be that personal, almost vulnerable.
Surely it helps that both are extremely talented, but it’s more about these two letting their emotions, feelings and ideas be completely released through music. AND it so happens that they are a perfect match. Their vision of music, their attitude towards each other, their vibe. It all fits together so well. They compliment each other perfectly. I know I’m using the word “perfect” often here, but it’s just appropriate. Also you can see that Dallas and Alicia enjoy each other company, there’s no battle of egos. It’s just two human beings who are on the same page.
Another reason why You+Me is so fascinating is that this duet’s style is different from the artists’ solo work. Pink is known for her bright, explosive pop-rock hits. And while Dallas Green has an indie sound with City and Colour, when in duo with Alicia he shows his softer side. Their collaborative music feels very personal and raw.
You+Me Best Songs
It’s almost impossible to pick only a couple songs by You+Me as their best. First of all they have just a single album and it has 10 songs. But secondly and most importantly – the album is incredible in its entirety. So if I had to pick You+Me TOP 10 songs, I’d list the whole album. I hope I got you interested enough to go and listen to it in one sitting.
Here are 3 songs that I like slightly more than others though. I guess they became my favorite over the years:
- The first one is called “No Ordinary Love” (originally by Sade). Oh and this is a LIVE performance:
2. The second one is called “You and Me“:
3. And the third one is “Second Guess“:
By the way, I have a special collection of Indie Folk hits. It’s a great playlist, feel free to check it out.
