Music For Your Soul: When You Really Need to Unwind

| |

Sometimes, the world just gets to me. I can’t ignore the fact that everything feels like it’s falling apart, like what was already weird is getting even crazier. The news feeds are depressing and exhausting, and sometimes, it all becomes too much. In those moments, I just need to unwind.

Few things help more than music when I feel that way. Sure, I could watch a movie, go outside, or play a video game, but all of that requires focus, attention, or effort. And when I’m already feeling down I don’t always have the energy for it. Music on the other hand asks for nothing. The right music becomes the energy itself. It brings me peace and it fuels me.

If you haven’t heard Ludovico Einaudi and Max Richter yet, you’re in for a treat.

Why Contemporary Classical Music?

So, why does contemporary classical music help when you need to relax, calm down, and unwind? What is it about this genre that makes it so effective?

Well, I should start by saying it’s definitely not the only type of music that works wonders. Any music you enjoy can lift your mood and help you feel better. For example, I love heavy sound, so when I need to distract myself and reset my mind, I often listen to bands like In Flames, Before the Dawn, and Grey Daze.

But when I’m completely drained of energy, modern classical music is what truly heals my mind. Its intricate, peaceful, slow-paced, and often minimalist sound is just perfect. It helps me let go of my worries, clear my thoughts, and calm my nerves. It acts as a gentle guide, leading me into a trance-like state.

It’s hard to put into words, honestly – you really have to experience it yourself. I have two amazing contemporary composers I turn to when I need a dose of classical music therapy: Ludovico Einaudi and Max Richter. If you want to feel the effects I’m talking about, start with their music.

Ludovico Einaudi

Ludovico Einaudi And his Music For your soul

Ludovico Einaudi is a brilliant Italian composer. I’ve first discovered him in early 2000s and been a fan of his work since then. His music is truly captivating. It evokes pure and deep emotions of calmness. And what’s even better is that these emotions feel very natural, they don’t feel forced. His melodies also have what I call effortless quality – they feel ethereal.

His composition Ritornare is one of my favorite music pieces of all time. Here, check it out:

Maybe it has something to do with the minimalist approach Ludovico follows, or something else. I’m not sure what’s the secret, but his gentle tunes might be just the right thing you need to escape the weight of the world.

Max Richter

Max Richter music for your soul

Max Richter is a German-British composer. Just like Ludovico he creates his own version of classical music. Sometimes he used ambient and electronic elements, and other times it’s just piano that creates the magic. The beauty of his melodies lies in the same genuine simplicity that I love so much. It’s a perfect music for quite introspection. An ideal medium for re-focusing.
