Who are Creedence Clearwater Revival?

Creedence Clearwater Revival (often called simply as CCR) was a rock band from US, California. The group members were John Fogerty, who was the lead vocalist, lead guitarist, and main songwriter, his brother Tom Fogerty on rhythm guitar, Stu Cook on bass, and Doug Clifford on drums.

They originally started playing together in 1959 under different names before officially becoming Creedence Clearwater Revival in 1967. The band quickly became popular, especially between 1969 and 1971, when they released five successful albums and had fourteen Top 10 singles.

Despite huge success the band broke up in 1972 due to conflicts within the group, especially between John Fogerty and the other members. Tom had already left the year before. John pursued a solo career. As for Cook and Clifford they eventually performed together as Creedence Clearwater Revisited from 1995 until 2020.

Music Style of Creedence Clearwater Revival

As it often happens with exceptional bands, they create their own unique style. And Creedence Clearwater Revival did just that. They virtuously combined various genres like rock and roll, roots rock, Southern blues achieving amazing super recognizable sound.

With lyrics about blue-collar life, the Vietnam War, and other social issues of the time CCR easily connected with wide audience. Their music was straightforward and catchy, featuring distinctive guitars and John Fogerty’s great raspy voice. Memorable hooks and strong storytelling were always the band’s strong side.
