Now without further ado, let’s get to the songs. I’ll list them one by one, with a short description for each. And at the end you can find the playlist featuring all of them together. Feel free to save it, or bookmark it, so you can easily enjoy this awesome music.
1. She’s A Lady
This is a truly timeless hit. The melody, the vocals, the lyrics – everything is so perfectly intertwined and harmonized. This is one of the most famous hits by Sir Tom, first released in 1971. Short by today’s standards this track packs so much energy and so much charisma, that it would be enough for 5 modern charts. This song never fails to impress.
2. Delilah
“Delilah“ is one of the older hits recorded back in 1967. It was a huge success in several counties. Tom Jones sang it during The Diamond Jubilee Concert outside Buckingham Palace in London in 2012. You can whiteness how beloved the song is when thousands of attendees sang along with Tom Jones. It also features beautiful flamenco elements that add another layer to the composition.
3. Green Green Grass Of Home
Another classic that definitely belongs among the best compositions Tom ever sang. It was written by Claude “Curly” Putman Jr, and performed by Jerry Lee Lewis. But it’s the Tom Jones version that lets this song truly shine. It is deeply emotional, the lyrics tell a sad story, and Tom’s voice delivers all that emotion straight to your heart.
4. Help Yourself
“Help Yourself“ is another popular hit from the early years of Tom’s career (came out in 1968). It has a playful tune, superb instruments and, and the signature voice of the man himself makes it more than just an old-school track. Genres may change, but high quality music never goes out of fashion.
5. It’s Not Unusual
A super-hit from the 60s, this is one of the most recognized songs by the singer. Chances are you’ve heard it on TV, or in a movie, or in a mall. It has a very catchy melody and just makes you wanna dance and sing along. It was quite a popular song in UK and US charts. For sure, on of his iconic hits.
6. I (Who Have Nothing)
Originally an Italian song “Uno dei Tanti“, I (Who Have Nothing) is an English version. It was performed by several artists, but it’s Tom’s version that became the biggest hit. In United States it peaked at No. 14 in 1970 on the Billboard chart. A great example of the vocal range that Jones always had, and the emotion he could pour into a song.
7. It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World
“It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World” is one of the most popular songs by James Brown. Other musicians made their covers over the years, but Tom’s version just hits different. It brings a new side to this incredible musical marvel. The live versions are also amazing.
8. I Know
From the album 13 Smash Hits released in 1967, the song “I Know” is probably less popular than some of Sir Tom’s other tracks. But for me, it’s one of his best displays of unbelievable vocals. Every time I hear it I think how powerful his voice was and is even today.
9. Two Brothers
“Two Brothers” could be a perfect soundtrack to one of Quentin Tarantino’s movies. It has this special vibe that director is so good at picking on. The track is from the Green, Green Grass of Home album, which I already mentioned in this list. If you haven’t heard that one yet, I highly recommend listening to the entire record.
10. One More Cup Of Coffee
“One More Cup of Coffee (Valley Below)” is a song by Bob Dylan. Tom Jones included it in his 2021 covers album Surrounded By Time. It’s one of the best songs from Tom since he entered the later part of his career. But when you listen to it you can hardly realize that the man was 80 years old while performing it. I enjoy the subtleness of this version, it holds a unique place it Tom’s discography.
I have combined all these songs in a singular playlist for your inconvenience. You can listen to all of them at once on my Spotify:
