Kosheen is a British electronic music band from Bristol, consisting of singer-songwriter Sian Evans, songwriter-producer Ron McElroy, and drummer Mitchell Glover. The name “Kosheen” combines elements of Japanese language and a nod to the Apache warrior, Cochise.

They debuted with their album “Resist” in 2001, which was a success. But the band was not going to stay fixed on that. Over the years their music style evolved. What began as more typical drum and bass, transformed into more guitar-focused tunes with darker lyrics. The change was already evident in their second album “Kokopelli”.

Kosheen released the last album “Solitude” in 2013. Their last albums were more atmospheric. After a brief hiatus, the band reunited in 2019 and resumed touring.

Music Style of Kosheen

Kosheen’s music style is a dynamic blend of multiple electronic genres. They always had a strong base in drum and bass, which defined their early work. But the main distinctive feature of the group’s sound is the amazing vocals by Sian Evans. Something that was so fresh at the time of their first releases, and I would argue is still unique in the genre.

If you like the style that has great electronic beats and catchy melodies, with some darker tones and alternative rock influences – this band is something you will definitely enjoy. I personally think they should have made a collab with The Prodigy. That would have been a legendary piece of music.
