Even though synthwave is a relatively new genre, there are many artists who create music in this style. Thanks to that we now have all kinds of branches and micro sub-genres within synthwave. Among all these artists a few stand out in particular. Today I’m covering one such musician – Timecop1983.

Who is Timecop1983?

Jordy Leenaerts aka Timecop1983

Timecop1983 is a stage name for Jordy Leenaerts, a Dutch electronic musician from Eindhoven. He began making music at the age of 12 and adopted his alias in 2014. His debut album Childhood Memories, and follow-up Journeys were both released in 2014. As of 2024 he has 6 studio albums. He creates music using a blend of software synthesizers and analog equipment.

Timecop1983 gained international recognition in 2016 with the label NewRetroWave and began performing live shows in the United States and Dubai. His music has been featured in various media, including the video game “Grand Theft Auto V“, DC’s “Legends of Tomorrow”, the Netflix series “Coin Heist”, “You Get Me”, and “Lucifer”. His song is also in the soundtrack for the crime drama “The Last Deal”.

Timecop1983 creates music in the style of synthwave. His inspiration often comes from iconic 80s movies. If you like films like Blade Runner (1982), Drive (2011), or John Carpenter’s Escape from New York (1981), you will most likely enjoy Timecop1983 albums. His music is very atmospheric, rhythmic and has a great feel to it.

Why Is Timecop1983’s Music So Good?

Timecop1983 creates dreamy, atmospheric music that draws you in, and puts you in a nice, relaxed state of mind. His tracks invite nostalgic, thoughtful, or just chilled out mood. One of my favorite songs “L.A. Nights” is perfect to listen when you’re driving a car.

Being a talented musician he creatively uses synth sounds in a modern manner. When I listen to his songs I get a pleasant vibes similar to what I experience from watching an old movie or a video game. It’s a fantastic blend of retro vibes with modern electronic beats.
