Musicians that can connect with so many people, and are able to invoke such strong emotions, that they become truly legendary. No matter how much time passes, when people hear their music – they Feel it, because it just hits different.

And some of these rare bands are so iconic, that they are universally recognized as being one of the best to ever create music. That’s why I am starting new series of posts covering these incredible music artists. And the first band that is an undeniable candidate for being The Best Music Band Ever is Pink Floyd.

Sure, we all have our favorite bands. And with so many music fans out there, you’ll find just as many opinions on who the best band should be. But there are factors that separate some bands from the rest. That’s what I want to point out in the first post of the “The Best Music Band Ever” series.

Factors that Define Greatest Bands

I believe it’s fair to say that what makes a band truly great goes beyond just hit songs or album sales. Let’s be real, we have plenty of examples when mediocre music sells well. It’s often about marketing and how it’s promoted. So I will not take this measurement into account.

Instead there are certain key factors that set the greatest bands apart:

  • Emotional Impact: One of the strongest factors. To be included in the category of the legendary bands, their music has to resonate deeply. It must connect with listeners on a very personal level.
  • Longevity: Another crucial characteristic. Truly exceptional songs should stand the test of time no matter what. Regardless of the genre or style, such music must remain relevant and powerful across generations.
  • Innovation: The best band are not afraid to push boundaries and explore new sounds. The greatest artists often come up with fresh or never heard before sound.
  • Influence: I believe the biggest music groups always inspire other artists. And even help shape the direction of music as a whole.

These are the qualities that put certain bands to legendary status. And I will use these criteria when judging other bands in future posts.

Just in case you are just discovering who Pink Floyd are, and never heard about them before, I’ll give a brief info section.

The band Pink Floyd was formed in London in 1965. It started out with Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, Nick Mason, and Richard Wright. They quickly became known for their psychedelic sound and experimental style. However after Syd Barrett left the band due to mental health issues, guitarist David Gilmour joined. That faithful event changed and shaped what would become Pink Floyd’s signature sound. Music fans characterize band’s music as Progressive rock, Art rock, Psychedelic rock, Space rock, Experimental rock.

Throughout the 1970s Pink Floyd released some of their most famous albums. Maybe you know these titles: “The Dark Side of the Moon”, “Wish You Were Here”, and “The Wall”. These albums were groundbreaking. Complex lyrics with innovative music that added a whole new meaning to the rock genre.

Also, their live shows were just as legendary. The band created huge stage designs, light shows, and effects that set new standards for concerts.

Why Pink Floyd Might Be The Best Group Ever

So what makes Pink Floyd possibly the best group ever? Let’s look at the factors I described earlier.

Their emotional impact is one of the main reasons they stand out so much. Pink Floyd’s music dives deeper than you probably think. The only real way to explain this effect – is to listen to it yourself. Yes, lyrics are masterfully written and touch upon subjects like alienation, war, human conditions. But it’s the surreal combination of sound and lyrics that creates this magic. Pink Floyd created masterpieces that tap into universal feelings and emotions, so their music is literally timeless.

Also, their innovation is something that surprises fans even today. They weren’t afraid to experiment with new sounds and effects. When we talk about things like rock opera and taking listeners on deep, immersive journeys through the album as a whole, they were the ones to make it popular. Albums like The Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall weren’t just collections of random songs. They were meant to create a full experience as you listen to the tracks in specific order.

Speaking of timelessness, Pink Floyd’s longevity is remarkable. It’s been many decades after their peak, but their music still feels just as relevant. To this day it continues to attract new fans. Which kinda gives me hope in humanity… Their albums have stood the test of time 100%. Band’s hits remain on best-seller lists as they are being rediscovered by each new generation.

And of course the influence factor is also huge. They’ve inspired countless artists across various genres, from rock to electronic music. Their approach to album production and live performances set the standard for future artists. In many ways Pink Floyd changed the way we experience music.

These factors combined make a strong case for why Pink Floyd might just be the best group ever.
