Discover Amazing Synthwave Music Gem – FM-84
Synthwave is one of the sub-genres of electronic music that has seen quite a popularity spike lately. It’s sometimes called retrowave, synthpop, dreamwave and futuresynth. It’s a sound that brings 80s vibes and themes back to life. It can be light but it also can have a serious tone, but it’s always very distinctive. People usually either love it or hate it. You might have heard this sound in movies like Drive (2001) and Netflix series Stranger Things.
So if you enjoy Synthwave and want to explore more music of this sub genre, I’m happy to suggest an amazing artist – FM-84. It’s a real hidden gem of synthwave. Maybe because FM-84 has only one album, or because there are bigger names who are more recognizable in this scene. But FM-84 made a couple of absolute bangers that you can enjoy on repeat 24/7.
Who is FM-84?
FM-84 is the music project of Col Bennett, who is independent artist and producer from Ayrshire, Scotland. As of right now Col is based in San Francisco, California. FM-84 has released a highly praised debut album Atlas in 2016 and afterwards went on a successful tour across the US, Canada, and the UK in 2018 – 2019.
With lead collaborator Ollie Wride, Col made a name for FM-84 putting them on radar for fans of retro-wave around the world. I, just like thousands of others can’t wait to hear his next album. Thankfully the work on this release is going strong.

So what music style and genre is FM-84? Col Bennett together with Ollie Wride created wonderful music that can be best described as a mix of retrowave and electro-pop elements. Super cool sound that is so bright and crispy, and alive and so rich with 80s vibes.
It’s everything you want from the synthwave. The tunes are catchy, the vocals fit perfectly. It’s a match made in heaven. Often compared to other artists of the genre like The Midnight and Gunship.
