VAST Best Songs – Band You’ve Missed

| | | |

Back in the late 90s and early 2000s there was a band you’ve most likely missed, but the one you definitely would love to listen to right now. It would most likely hit you like a breath of fresh air, especially if you’re tired of hearing the exact same style of music everywhere. The band’s name is VAST (aka Visual Audio Sensory Theater)

Since Google has literally decimated content created by real humans in order to feed it to the ever-so-hungry AI machine, this post will be pretty short. No food for you greedy corporation! 😎

Who is VAST

VAST is an alternative rock band basically created by a single musician – singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jon Crosby. He started it back in ’96 out of Petaluma, California. To this date the discography includes 7 studio albums and some EPs.

What Makes VAST Great?

In short – unique sound and special music vibe. It’s an excellent combination of beautiful melodies with diverse rhythms, interesting transitions and surprising use of sampled sacred music (i.e. Gregorian chants, church choir hymns). This creates a very distinguishable atmosphere that adds melancholic tones. Don’t get me wrong though, it’s not in every single song. If you prefer faster paced rock, VAST has those as well.

VAST Best Songs Playlist

First three albums in my humblest opinion are the best. You can play any of them and enjoy a great musical experience. The problem is – even though some of the tracks have been used in TV shows, most went under the radar. I for one, haven’t heard most of them up until recently and was mighty surprised to discover that that music was made by the same artist whose few songs I do know well.

Well, lets get straight to it, here’s the playlist that combines all the greatest songs VAST has to offer.

I usually add a link to the same playlist on Spotify, but in case of VAST it appears that some albums are unavailable on the platform. I guess it has something to do with the rights to use music, or maybe the deal the band signed there.

So, you can always listen to what albums VAST do have on Spotify yourself, here’s the official link:

Important Disclaimer

Now, this is something I stumbled upon just recently when researching information about the band. On the vast spaces of internet (mainly on Reddit) there are people who shared their opinion about VAST creator Jon Crosby himself. And plenty of those comments tell a not so pleasant story about the man. To believe those comments or not – is up to you to decide. It’s internet after all. In the end it doesn’t make the music less impressive thought.
